Cutting PVC conduit in tight spaces and trenches is as easy

as using a hacksaw in open space. And you can do it just

by using a cotton string line like the ones bricklayers use.

Just make sure it is a cotton string because nylon will

either burn away or melt into the PVC.

Place the string around the conduit and simply saw

back and forth to wear and burn away the cut. This

method will be greatly appreciated when you have to dig

up a conduit and cut it in the trench!

Templates may be useful for when a gang of conduits have to

be mounted to a wall or other surface.

Set-up the conduits on a bench or floor with saddles in

place, adjusted for the best look and fit. Using a sheet metal

template, your first-year apprentice should be able to drill

appropriate holes to a chalkline, or any suitable datum.

Then, with the holes pre-drilled, conduits can be fitted fast

and easily without having to juggle them up a ladder while

holes are being drilled.
