SafeWork QLD sends out recall reminder for Infinity Cable

Queensland’s recall rate of Infinity Cable has reached 77%, however, there’s still around 177km of cable unaccounted for.

The cable is not compliant with electrical safety standards and will quickly become brittle. If disturbed, the insulation can crack, causing a risk of fire or electric shock.

Cable installed in areas of elevated heat has an increased likelihood of failing.

This cable was supplied throughout Queensland in 2012–13 by:

  • Masters Home Improvement
  • Mitre 10
  • Home Timber and Hardware
  • HEM Queensland

Woolworths is taking responsibility to fix installations if the cable was purchased from Master Home Improvements.

It affects all sizes and configurations of TPS and Orange Round mains power cables sourced from Infinity Cable Co Pty Ltd and supplied under ‘INFINITY’ and ‘OLSENT’ brands.

The cable is labelled ‘INFINITY’ or ‘OLSENT’ at one-metre intervals on the cable.

Electrical contractors and workers who come across the affected cable should:

  • let customers know that, as part of the recall, the supplier will pay to fix or replace the cable
  • encourage homeowners to contact the supplier to fix the cable to prevent the risk of electric shock or fire
  • recommend a safety switch be installed on the affected circuits.

Electrical contractors and workers should be mindful of the risks and look for the recalled cable when accessing roof spaces, under floors and similar areas where this cable may have been installed.
