Senior business executive Denise Cosgrove has been appointed chief executive of WorkSafe Victoria.

Ms Cosgrove’s three-year appointment was announced today by WorkSafe chairperson, David Krasnostein.

“Ms Cosgrove has significant experience in accident compensation scheme management, including claims management, people leadership and strategy development,” Mr Krasnostein said.

The Assistant Treasurer, Gordon Rich-Phillips MLC, welcomed the announcement which he said followed an extensive international search and recruitment process.

“Ms Cosgrove will bring valuable skills and knowledge to the business, which continues to deliver great outcomes for all Victorians, including the safest workplaces in the state’s history and the lowest WorkCover premiums in Australia,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

Both Mr Rich-Phillips and Mr Krasnostein acknowledged the work of deputy chief executive and executive director of health and safety Ian Forsyth, who has been acting chief executive for the past three months.

“Over the past three months, Ian has taken on this added role and made sure WorkSafe has continued to have strong leadership,” Mr Krasnostein said.

Ms Cosgrove is currently the general manager of the claims management area at the Accident Compensation Corporation in New Zealand, which operates the country’s personal injury insurance scheme. Her appointment will take effect from 12 November.
