WorkSafe is investigating the death of a worker after an incident during an irrigation installation at an orchard in Koonoomoo near Cobram on Thursday.

The 49-year-old man, believed to be working alone, was handling a 6.5m length of aluminium pole when electricity from an overhead power line passed through it, causing the electrocution.

The man was found dead by a colleague at roughly 2pm the following day, after being reported missing.

This marks the 36th confirmed workplace fatality of 2025, following 38 work-related deaths at the same time last year.
