Subcontractors’ bid for fair pay backed by specialist trade associations
The National Fire Industry Association (NFIA) and the Master Plumber’s Association of Queensland (MPAQ) held a forum for subcontractors in which they were given the opportunity to hear first-hand from the Building Industry Fairness Implementation and Evaluation Panel in relation to project bank accounts and chapter three changes to the Building Industry Fairness Act.
Panel chair Bronwyn Weir advised attendees that the panel had conducted evaluation and consultation activities for each building reform and will make recommendations to the Queensland Government in a report.
NIFA chief executive Wayne Smith backed all subcontractors saying that fair pay is all they want.

“Subbies will support any amendments to the laws that improve payment fairness,” he says.
MPAQ executive director Penny Comah says the Queensland government is working through the changes of implementing the new laws with the support of the industry.
“We expect to see lots of positive outcomes through this implementation.”
Queensland’s leading Specialist Trade Contractor Associations will continue to work with decision-makers throughout the implementation of the new payment laws to ensure the best possible outcome.
