Sparkies wanted for free smart home energy monitor trial
Sense, a leader in the smart home market, is setting up operations in Australia and is seeking participants for a free pilot programme. The company is seeking help to test and train its technology, which enables households to save energy and reduce energy costs.
Sense’s AI technology has gained a thorough understanding of the US market where more than two million Sense-enabled meters have been announced, and Sense is seeking to get a better understanding of the Australian market, before introducing the technology locally.

Part of the machine learning process involves “training” the AI technology to recognise locally popular appliances and devices that consume a lot of energy like HVAC units, washers and dryers, TVs, hot tub pumps and heaters, and typical household devices such as hair dryers and irons.
For this trial, Sense is seeking electricians to install energy monitors in their own homes. Not only will they have the right qualifications to install a monitor in their electrical panel, but they will also have a deeper understanding of a house’s energy usage.
Participants will not need to do anything once it’s installed – the Sense AI will take a few days to observe and start to understand appliances and devices, just by the energy flowing into and out of the home.
Participating electricians will get the opportunity to learn more about a new technology, and once the training period has completed, learn about their own home energy consumption via the intuitive app and hopefully save some money on their energy bills. Looking to the future, Sense will also be looking to identify electrician partners to assist in the installation of Sense in large-scale pilots.
