Qualified electrical mechanics have the chance to upskill with a safety short course for the resource sector at SkillsTech Australia’s Eagle Farm Training Centre.

SkillsTech Australia teacher electrical Keith Pattingale says the post-trade short course gives electrical mechanics the skills and knowledge to work in the field of Electrical Equipment and Hazardous Areas (EEHA).

“Students will gain the skill set required to maintain electrical equipment in the coal mining and gas sectors plus within dust and pressurised environments,” Keith says.

“This is a desirable qualification in the resource sector.

“Training is delivered face-to-face and provides students with the practical aspects of termination and visual inspections of hazardous areas and equipment.

“The EEHA competencies are part of the accredited Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas.

“Students will undergo recognition of prior learning, in regard to electrical components and must hold a current Electrical Licence.”

Flexible training options are available, with night classes running over 10 weeks or five days full-time also offered.

SkillsTech Australia was awarded the Safety Initiative Category at the 5th Annual LP Gas Excellence Awards in October 2012 with two apprentices also award recipients at the industry awards night. The institute was also awarded at the Department of Education, Training and Employment’s Workplace Health and Safety Awards 2012.
