Sense has introduced its new EV Analytics solution to Australia. This marks the first in a suite of Sense software solutions designed to support utility electrification and grid reliability needs from the edge.

EV Analytics, which has been rolled out in the US, is a load management solution delivered through next generation smart meters that offers electric vehicle detection and charging insights that unlock smarter forecasting, better distribution planning and more efficient managed charging program delivery for retailers, distributed network service providers (DNSPs) and meter coordinators.

Sense EV Analytics uses artificial intelligence (AI) to process waveform data at the grid edge. It detects the electrical signatures of EVs and monitors both Level 1 and Level 2 charge events and accurately monitors detailed data, including start/stop times and kilowatt-hour consumption.

The solution is the first grid-edge product from Sense built specifically for retailers, DNSPs and meter coordinators who already use Internet of Things (IoT) telemetry systems, but need to enhance grid edge visibility to include all EVs charging loads, not just the EVs that are registered or ‘seen’ by IoT platforms.

“There’s a saying that you can’t measure what you can’t see,” Sense head of Australia Dave Johnson explains.

“Sense’s new EV Analytics app not only provides data in real time, but it helps identify trends and patterns around EV charging.”

Sense has focused its energy on finding all EVs on a grid, including those ghost EVs that retailers, DNSPs and meter coordinators are often blind to because 50% of EVs use Level 1 wall plug charging. This is part of Sense’s focus on innovation that delivers tools to utilities that accelerate electrification, grid reliability and grid capacity from the edge.

‌The EV Analytics app is now available in the US and is being rolled out by utilities leveraging Landis+Gyr next next-generation smart meters through the Sense EV Analytics App. Australia is part of Sense’s international rollout of the new EV Analytics app, with the technology being introduced this year to local markets.
