Redback Technologies announces solar solution for South Australian homes
Redback Technologies, a home-based Brisbane start-up, has announced the soon-to-be availability of the Smart Hybrid Inverter. This is a solar and storage solution that will exist under the South Australian (SA) home battery scheme.
SA households will be able to receive state government grants up to $6,000 in order to install more decent home battery technology. Announced in October, the scheme is designed to make it easier for users to enable more reliable and cost-friendly energy sources.
“With the cost of renewable energy technology continuing to fall, there’s never been a better time to consider solar and battery storage for home owners,” says Redback Technologies chief executive Patrick Matweew.

“We applaud the South Australian government for introducing the subsidy. They are re-focusing efforts on empowering consumers to take control of their energy future, while simultaneously driving energy prices down, taking stress off grid infrastructure and helping to limit climate change. It’s truly a win-win situation.”
Announced by SA Premier Steven Marshall, the scheme is similar to a program run by the Queensland Government that Redback is also involved in. It provides loans and grants for home owners and small businesses who install combined solar and storage systems.
The Redback Smart Hybrid System features a 5kW inverter, a new battery cabinet which is expandable and holds up to 9.6kWh of energy storage. The system also has intuitive consumer apps, designed to help home owners understand their energy consumption and generation, and reduce bills.
Redback will be working with key installers in the SA market, including NRG Solar Services, Class A Energy Solutions and Greener Housing Solutions to increase the number of installations of its product in the state.
