Polysilicon price issues remain for solar industry
Polysilicon is a small but crucial part of a conventional solar panel and recent figures from Bernreuter Research show that it’s extremely high, worth US$38.37 per kilogram as of 14 September 2022.
After the Chinese Yuan has stopped weakening, the global polysilicon spot price average rose again in line with the Chinese spot price. EnergyTrend’s index of mono-grade polysilicon in China has increased from CNY304/kg last week to CNY305/kg (including 13% VAT).

Once all Chinese polysilicon plants are through annual maintenance and the ramp-up of new facilities gains momentum during September, prices might ease a bit.
After lagging behind in the first half of December 2021, EnergyTrend’s spot price of mono-grade polysilicon in China has been in accordance with other price indices again; hence, Bernreuter Research has returned to EnergyTrend as its database. In late October 2021, EnergyTrend stopped tracking multi-grade polysilicon; for the time being, we will use a price estimate for multi-grade instead.
The below graph illustrates the global pricing trend of polysilicon:
