The new ExoCab18-Macro 100 cabinet has been announced by power company Eaton. Designed to withstand harsh environments, Eaton has designed the power and equipment cabinet in order to house IT equipment and telecommunications in conditions prevalent to the Australian outback.

4G and 5G network base stations are generally applied, as well as railway signaling, critical radio and infrastructure, and road traffic management electronics. The cabinet unit has environmental control and is an overall back-up system with DC powered fans to control speed, energy and noise.

Telecom solutions manager Darren Salter says, “With Australia’s temperatures reaching record levels, thermal management for housing outdoor power and equipment is top of mind. The cabinet employs a fan speed controller to manage internal and external air flows and a battery compartment which includes a DC-powered thermoelectric cooler, to pull the internal battery compartment temperature below ambient if needed. The system can be used by mining, water treatment and electrical utilities to house and support communications and control networks that are critical to those industries.”
