NECA welcomes NSW’s electrically powered path to net zero
The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) has welcomed the NSW government’s adjusted commitment to a more ambitious 50% emissions reduction target by 2030, compared to the previous goal of 35%.
The announcement is underpinned by supercharging the uptake of electric vehicles and fast-tracking the rollout of renewables, presenting significant opportunities for electrical contractors.

The announcement sees NSW more closely aligned with the emissions reduction targets already committed to by South Australia and Victoria.
Meeting the target, senior government officials have stated, will rely heavily on renewable technology projects, and is projected to attract more than $37 billion in private-sector investment.
The ambitious policy announcement will require electrical contractors to be heavily involved in the installation of new technology and the construction of clean infrastructure projects.
“This commitment will see the rapid rollout of emissions reducing clean energy technology, helping to fight climate change while creating huge economic opportunities for the state and its businesses,” NECA chief executive Oliver Judd says.
“Electrical contractors will be critical at every step if we are to meet this electrically-fuelled commitment.”
