The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) has welcomed the ACT’s reaffirmed commitment to reducing emissions and electrifying its economy with a $63 million budget over four years to be allocated into green transformation projects.

The ACT’s announcement details a dual (Sustainable Household Scheme and Climate Action Package) approach to sustainability, designed to meet the ambition of reaching net-zero emissions by 2045.

Both the Household scheme and the Climate Action Package outline technological transformations that are required to reach the ambitious climate goal. The budget paints a picture of an electrical revolution, relying heavily on energy efficiency upgrades, EV take-up and a switch to more sustainable energy generation through rooftop solar.

NECA, the peak body for electrical contractors, supports the plan, arguing that any initiative that leads sustainable change through the work of skilled tradespeople and local business is exactly what the state needs.

“It is great to see ambitious commitments matched with real, tangible plans for achievement. We have long advocated for this type of policy program that supports long-term renewable targets but also supports local industry and skilled tradespeople,” NECA chief executive Oliver Judd says.

“This is a win-win for the planet and the local economy, electrical contractors will be at the forefront of actioning these proposed plans and we have full faith in them to deliver at every stage.”
