NBN switched on to over 10,000 premises across Tasmania
Parliamentary Secretary for Broadband, Ed Husic, and Member for Bass, Geoff Lyons, officially switched on the first NBN fibre services in Launceston and 19 new fixed wireless sites across the State.
“Launceston is the latest community in Australia to switch-on NBN fibre services,” Ed says.

“More than 4,300 homes and businesses are now able to connect to the NBN fibre network with even more coming online over the next few months.
“I urge everyone who can access the NBN to sign-up so they can experience what the NBN has to offer.”
Federal Member for Bass, Geoff Lyons, said having the NBN switched on in Launceston means local businesses will have a competitive advantage.
“The ability to send and receive big files almost instantly means businesses that previously had to stay in capital cities can set up anywhere,” Geoff says.
“Faster, more reliable and affordable broadband means reduced costs for businesses and local families, and the opportunity to improve productivity and create jobs locally.”
NBN fixed wireless services have also been switched on for 6,300 homes, farms, and businesses in 19 rural and remote areas across Tasmania.
The NBN’s fixed wireless network delivers faster and more reliable broadband speeds than what Australians in the major cities can get over the ageing copper network today.
