Legrand developed its first commercial IoT solution, the GALAXY connected emergency lighting system, in late 2018. The company decided to display the lighting monitoring system with an installation at Melba Copland Secondary School.

The focus for the school was to implement a cost-effective solution that was reliable, sustainable and simple to operate. The GALAXY system was chosen for its ease of installation, fast commissioning and streamlined operation as well as its integrated WiFi technology, allowing smart devices to connect and communicate with the system.

The installation included 250 luminaires with lithium batteries, one station which covers the whole site, one server and remote access.

One station GALAXY system is able to cover an area of up to 2km line of sight, removing the need to install multiple repeaters, minimising system infrastructure and installation costs for contractors.
