Kimberley release illume Solar Shaftless Skylight
Kimberley has released a range of smart, shaftless ambient light systems that allow builders and DIY home improvers to introduce a natural light effect into just about all dark spaces even multi level buildings.
The illume Solar Shaftless™ Skylight System comes in a range of sizes and configurations including windows, skylights and manholes. The advantage of the illume system is that it can be used in locations where traditional natural light conduits cannot be fitted.

Using ambient technology, illume is designed to convert the sun’s energy to light and auto-adjust brightness levels to match external conditions thereby creating a harmony in your home or office between indoor and outdoor lighting.
illume can be used to introduce additional light where required to any large or small space including hallways, entrances, walk-in robes, bathrooms, laundries, pantries, restrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and sheds or garages.
According to Managing Director of Kimberley, Brian Kimberley, illume has been extremely well received in the market since being launched recently, including winning a ‘Most Innovative Product’ award at the Danks National Trade Show and Conference.
“Ambient light created by illume reflects what the weather is doing outside in the same way that a skylight or window would,” Mr Kimberley said. “The big difference is that it can be fitted in many places where you can’t fit a traditional skylight such as in lower floor apartments or where security is an issue.
“It also has been recognised as a great alternative to traditional ambient light sources because there are no dust collection, mould build-up, leaks or insect issues to contend with. In addition, with illume you don’t experience the loss of heat in winter or additional heat in summer that are features of a conventional skylight which means that the energy costs of temperature control are lower.
“As with traditional skylights, elements such as the time of day and the presence of cloud cover also affect the lighting levels that illume emits. This ‘ambient light technology’ ensures that illume introduces light exactly as a traditional skylight would.”
“Unlike traditional skylights, the illume system does not require roof penetrations which can lead to leakage causing major damage to internal linings etc. Also, as there is no need for tubes or flexible shafts, illume is a sealed unit that prevents heat build up or annoying bugs inhabiting the skylight.”
