iiNet connects first fixed wireless NBN customer in WA
Westnet customer Lourdes Whyatt originally accessed the internet with an ADSL service that was limited to speeds of just 1.5Mbps (megabits per second). Now, thanks to the new fixed wireless service, Mrs Whyatt can expect speeds up to 12Mbps, eight times faster.
Mrs Whyatt said her family uses the internet for both business and study. “My daughter is currently studying for her CPA online, so the faster NBN service will definitely make that a better experience,” she said.

“We also rely on the internet for our family construction business to send quotes, keep in contact with customers and deal with suppliers in China. Faster internet access will improve that as well, so we’re very happy the NBN has come to town.”
The Whyatt family’s faster fixed wireless NBN service is also significantly cheaper than their original ADSL plan, with comparable prices coming in at $20 a month less. “We’re paying a lot less to get a faster and better service – it’s just wonderful,” Mrs Whyatt said.
iiNet is the first ISP to serve West Australian fixed wireless customers on the NBN having just connected to the NBN Transit Network via the Geraldton Point of Interconnect (POI).
iiNet’s Chief Marketing Officer, Wendy Walker, said the company is passionate about what iiNet can deliver customers via the NBN.
“We’re excited to follow the rollout because it means we can offer the best service on the highest performance network in Australia,” she said.
“Residents in Geraldton can now connect to the internet as people would in major cities and get the same awesome customer service from iiNet.”
