Lighting Council Australia to manage the FluoroCycle Scheme

From 19 July 2013, Lighting Council Australia assumed responsibility for the management of the FluoroCycle Scheme.

FluoroCycle has been delivered jointly by Lighting Council Australia and the Australian Government on behalf of the Australian, State and territory environment ministers and overseen by the COAG Standing Council on Environment and Water.

Lighting Council Australia is recognised by government as the peak body for the lighting industry.

Lighting Council Australia does not intend to make any major changes to the way FluoroCycle operates; it will continue as a free, voluntary product stewardship scheme.

Once Lighting Council Australia takes over full management of the FluoroCycle scheme from 19 July 2013, it intends to seek accreditation for the scheme as a voluntary product stewardship arrangement under the Product Stewardship Act 2011.

Attaining accreditation would communicate that the FluoroCycle scheme has been independently assessed by the Australian Government as a credible product stewardship scheme achieving real and effective outcomes.
