The Australian Energy Storage Council – the new peak body for the energy storage industry – has been formally launched, opening up exciting new opportunities for the sector in Australia.

“Energy storage brings exciting new opportunities for the energy industry and for energy consumers,” said John Grimes the Chief Executive of the Energy Storage Council.

“Deployed wisely it can significantly bring down electricity costs and make the electricity network more robust, flexible and reliable.”
 
The founding partner and supporter of the Australian Energy Storage Council is the Australian Solar Council.

The Solar Council brings over 50 years of knowledge along with recent history in organising energy storage focussed training courses.

In its early stages, the Energy Storage Council is resourced by the Solar Council, therefore John Grimes acts as CEO for both organisations.

“It is important that energy utilities engage with the energy storage sector sooner rather than later.

“Too often the energy sector ignores emerging technology trends and is blindsided when they are deployed widely.
 
“That’s why one of the first things the Energy Storage Council will do is to focus on developing standards and protocols for embedding energy storage into the energy network.”
 
The Australian Energy Storage Council is a national member based not-for-profit organisation and is governed by a volunteer board.

The Council will be funded by membership, industry events and training activities.
 
“The time is right for this organisation to be developed in its own right and it will be guided by its membership and the needs of the energy storage sector beyond solar applications.”
 
The Australian Energy Storage Council is committed to providing an independent forum to bring together all representatives of the energy storage industry for networking and information sharing.

The Council aims to connect local and global industry partners in this growing industry.
 
The Australian Energy Storage Council will have an important role to play in creating industry standards and encouraging industry best practice for the energy storage sector.
 
The applications for energy storage run across electric vehicles, domestic energy storage linked solar PV in particular, and large-scale on-grid solutions for the utility sector.
 
Members will benefit from policy and advocacy activities, news updates, industry events, networking and training opportunities.

Members will have a voice in how this emerging industry will move into the future.
 
The Australian Energy Storage Council represents companies including technology manufacturers, equipment providers, project developers, consultants, utilities and other energy industry leaders.
