Energy Safe Victoria warns about risk of electric shock from PIR sensorsEnergy Safe Victoria (ESV) is warning that there is a significant risk of electric shock from identified passive infrared (PIR) sensors during installation, service or maintenance work.

The warning follows an electrician receiving an electric shock last September while installing a PIR sensor that is commonly installed in commercial or industrial premises.

ESV says when the cover of these PIR sensors is removed, the user is exposed to live parts including the main’s terminals and the PIR sensor head (240V). Touching the PIR sensor head could result in severe injury or death.

ESV is reminding people that maintenance and adjustments to settings must be carried out with the power isolated and by licensed electricians only.
