Consultation is now open for the Certificate II (Career Start) for the electrotechnology industry, helping Australia reach its new zero targets by training the next generator of workers.

The course is a pre-apprenticeship that introduces those to the electrical and electronics industries, to help prepare people for further training within the field.

The decision to refresh the qualification was made due to previous alterations creating a difficult pathway into the energy sector.

These previous modifications to Certificate II resulted in the course becoming obsolete for individuals wanting to navigate into the energy sector.

New draft changes are to be implemented with means to tackle the issue.

One of the proposed changes is a new specialised Pathway Certificate II Qualification.

This course is designed for people looking to break into the electrotechnology industry within their chosen field. This is to cater for individuals who want a clearer pathway into the energy sector.

The Pathway Certificate II will replace nine existing Certificate II qualifications.

The second proposed change is a new gateway Certificate II qualification aimed to prepare and encourage people to enter the electrotechnology industry by exposing individuals to potential job opportunities.

For more information and to give feedback on the changes, please visit the Powering Skills website or give feedback to the ITAB.
