The Clean Energy Council has released its bi-annual Rooftop solar and storage report.

It shows that Australian commuters and small businesses continue to take advantage of Australia’s solar resources with rooftop solar, making up 12.8% of all electricity generated between January and June 2025.

With 4.2 million Australian homes and businesses already using rooftop solar and battery uptake rising, the next step is enabling the nearly three million renting households to access solar savings.

Rooftop solar is on track to help meet Australia’s goal of sourcing 82% of electricity from clean energy by 2030. The Australian Energy Market Operator projects 36GW of rooftop solar across the National Electricity Market by 2030, but current uptake suggests Australia will reach 37.2GW by June that year, exceeding forecasts by 3.3%.
