Breakthrough plug-and-play CHESS system delivers solar energy supply and storage for remote locations
[gallery_images_placeholder] Conergy’s CHESS system is housed in easily transportable standard shipping containers with scalable power output in 100kW increments continuing upward depending on site requirements. The fully expandable ‘plug and play’ system is designed to seamlessly integrate solar energy into existing power supplies of minesites, production and accommodation facilities, as well as hospitality, recreational, processing and community developments operating in remote off-grid or on-grid locations.
Drawing on Conergy’s global expertise in delivering large-scale solar energy projects totaling nearly 1GW (including a solar system providing electricity to more than 750 homes in a New Caledonia community) CHESS is designed to deliver stable 24-hour, seven-day-a-week power supply for any remote or grid-connected location, says Conergy Australia Managing Director Mr David McCallum.

“Solar energy generation is now no longer limited to only providing energy while the sun shines. Our CHESS system is a proven reality, purpose-designed to function efficiently either independently or working in tandem with an existing power infrastructure, providing power even when the sun isn’t shining. CHESS provides a reliable, uninterrupted power supply that will facilitate many companies’ transition from diesel to renewable solar energy.”
“This outstanding breakthrough source of solar energy supply and storage, integrated into the overall power supply of a site will dramatically reduce operating costs as well as insulate businesses against the future volatility of long-term fuel prices.”
CHESS has remote control and system monitoring functions that can also be integrated into an existing SCADA system. These capabilities provide huge benefits to remote communities that may not have easy access to specialist operating technicians.
Designed to achieve a high ROI and swiftly achieve full payback through fossil fuel savings, CHESS capacity can be extended by connecting containers in parallel on the AC side to the required power output size. Additional battery containers are available to extend the storage to any required capacity.
The robust, low-maintenance and modular CHESS system features control hardware globally proven with German sustainable energy supply technology specifically designed for off-grid applications.
CHESS can be operated as a stand-alone islanding application or as part of a diesel grid solution. In off-grid applications, CHESS can control voltage and frequency, providing short-circuit power, fault ride-through and black-start capability.

“CHESS is backed by the resources and expertise of Conergy as a solar supplier of global scale,” said Mr. McCallum. “For any organisation contemplating solar power, this means they are dealing with a single-source solar provider with the experience and scale to deliver an all-encompassing and tailored energy solution.”
“Our proven capability is also very important, providing ongoing service, proper warranties and backing these in the field with guaranteed system lifetime performance. What use, after all, is a service offering and a warranty without the substance to back it in future?”Local projects
“Evidence of Conergy’s ongoing commitment and capability can be seen in our global and local track record, which in Australasia and Oceania extends from major solar energy facilities for international food and beverage manufacturers, through to a new 2MWp heart-shaped power plant on Grand Terre, New Caledonia’s largest island, where 7,888 German-made Conergy PowerPlus panels will generate enough electricity to supply 750 homes.
“Many of the largest solar installations in the world have benefitted from our knowledge, experience and industry-leading solar panels, inverters, energy storage, monitoring and mounting systems.
“Such experience means Conergy is able to deliver a tailored solar solution for any energy supply setup. Our three-step approach to solar installation will take companies from feasibility study through to operation and commercial management, including, where required, investor/capital funding and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). Our engineering strength and financial backing ensure hassle-free implementation and positive outcomes.
“Conergy utilizes high-performance solar technologies developed to the most exacting standards in the market, selected by our experienced specialist Solar Engineers as the most durable, robust and efficient available for each individual project. “Conergy’s Project Development capability combines broad experience of multiple projects both locally and globally, without being tied to any particular technology. This freedom of choice – which we believe is unique among global downstream solar companies – means we are not tied to any particular type of manufacturing technology, which empowers us to deliver the right solution for our clients. Our integrated quality service approach to Project Development enables us to project manage a client’s system solution from start to finish.” For photography, artist’s impressions or requests for interviews please contact:
