HIA has announced the appointment of Kristin Brookfield to the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB), which is critical in ensuring the exceptional standards of construction that prevail throughout Australia.

“Australia is extremely fortunate to have a framework that brings together governments and industry to deliver a truly national building code. Many other countries claim to have this, but once you scratch the surface you quickly discover they are not uniformly adopted in the same way that Australia’s National Construction Code is,” says Kristin.

“The ABCB continues to set a precedent for national cooperation and coordination that other sectors should be following if they are genuinely committed to reducing red tape and streamlining regulation. I look forward to participating in the Board’s work and appreciate the opportunity to represent industry in this way.”

Kristin brings a wealth of practical and policy experience in her role as industry representative, with qualifications in town planning. Kristin’s initial career in local government and the NSW Department of Planning has given her a sound grounding in the interaction between myriad building, planning and community considerations.

Since joining HIA in 2003 Kristin has held a number of senior policy roles including senior executive director, building, development and environment.  Kristin was also appointed HIA’s chief executive of industry policy in January 2017.

Kristin also participates in a number of Australian and International industry bodies, including the Australian Construction Industry Forum as a director and the Building Products Innovation Council. She also currently chairs the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC), the International Housing Association Working Group on Counterfeit and Non-conforming Building Products, and the International Housing Association Working Group on Social Housing.
