ABB i-bus KNX goes to the races
Systems Intelligence had the challenge of implementing lighting control for a broadcast vehicle based mainly in Metropolitan Brisbane; the vehicle is primarily used by a large sports broadcast company that covers Horse Racing events in Australia. The broadcast vehicle is virtually a remote broadcast television studio. Video and sound signals come into the vehicle for processing, recording and transmission.
Systems Intelligence introduced the ABB i-bus KNX as an option for lighting control, the ABB i-bus KNX control system grew to include much more. Systems Intelligence added air conditioning, temperature control, load shedding and sequencing, alarming, phase control, surge protection, fire alarms and metering to be added to the lighting control that was already part of the original design. A 15 Inch User Interactive Touch Screen was introduced so the whole system can be seen easily and efficiently.

With KNX only relatively new to Australia, ABB i-bus KNX was able to give far more choice than ever before with regards to product, capability and user friendliness. Systems Intelligence found major benefits with using the ABB i-bus KNX for their client; reduced cost, ease of integration with other systems, ease and speed of programming and ease of information to enable visualisation. The ease and speed of programming also assisted when the client needed to make changed late in the project, enabling to keep to the project deadline and deliver on time.
Systems Intelligence project manager Garry Lowe explains why they picked the ABB i-bus KNX for this project over competitors.
“The easy and seamless integration of ABB i-bus KNX made the development time faster and opened up a lot of opportunities for adding extended control to the overall system, which became a major drawcard for KNX,” Garry says.
The project originally started off as simple lighting control but quickly grew to a more holistic solution due to the choice and control available using ABB i-bus KNX as the path for this.
