Free national battery training rolls out to meet soaring installation demand
The TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries has launched a national pilot program offering free battery fundamentals, installation and safety training to help address urgent workforce needs.
Led by TAFE Queensland and backed by the Australian and Queensland Governments, the Centre aims to support the rapid growth of current and emerging battery technologies through new education and training pathways.

Rising demand for battery installations, driven by the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, has highlighted the need for more skilled workers. Developed with industry input, the pilot program is designed to close skill gaps and reduce safety risks across the sector.
TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries executive director Shawn O’Sullivan says the initiative is open to the entire energy workforce, including trade assistants, apprentices and licensed electricians: “The funded training aims to reduce barriers to access, participation and skill development across the industry.”
Through the pilot, TAFE Queensland will deliver seven micro-credentials and one skill set, with five micro-credentials already open for enrolment and the remaining courses launching in early 2026. The micro-credentials are self-paced, online and can be completed in a few hours, allowing workers across Australia to upskill flexibly.
The program also supports national consistency by promoting harmonised training delivery for battery installation standards across the TAFE network. Educators will be able to access the funded courses to ensure they are equipped to deliver uniform, high-quality training.
