Fluke launches GFL-1500 Solar Ground Fault Locator for faster, safer PV troubleshooting

Fluke has introduced the GFL-1500 Solar Ground Fault Locator, a tool designed to help technicians quickly pinpoint active ground faults in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

By generating a traceable signal through the array, the GFL-1500 enables fast, non-contact fault tracing directly to the source, significantly reducing troubleshooting time and technician exposure to electrical hazards.

The three-piece system, comprising the GFL-1500 Transmitter, Receiver and Signal Tracing Clamp, streamlines field diagnostics with Fluke’s FaultTrack Technology. This innovation detects active faults and produces a signal along the fault path, allowing technicians to visually follow it to the precise point of failure without relying on detailed site documentation.

Fluke says the GFL-1500 simplifies what was once a complex, manual process. From a single test location, technicians can trace fault paths without disconnecting conductors or manually testing each string, improving both efficiency and safety. The system’s non-contact tracing capability allows for fault isolation even in noisy environments or incomplete array layouts.

Designed for modern solar infrastructure, the GFL-1500 meets IEC 61010-1 and 61010-2-030 safety standards and is rated CAT III 1500 V DC and CAT IV 600 V. The signal tracing clamp is also rated for use on insulated conductors up to 1500 V, making the system suitable for utility-scale PV sites adopting higher-voltage architectures.

Built for durability and ease of use in real-world conditions, the Fluke GFL-1500 provides technicians with a faster, safer and more intuitive way to detect and locate faults, helping site managers minimise downtime and maintain peak system performance.
