ARC reports record growth in RAC licences

The ARCTick licence scheme is at record levels with major increases in consecutive years. This reflects the sector’s expanding workforce and increasing industry profile.

In the 2023-24 financial year, the ARC recorded a net increase of more than 12,618 permits, comprising of 10,692 Refrigerant Trading Authorisations (RTAs). Data suggests the industry will have a strong 2024-25 with projections exceeding 12,000 new licences and business registrations.

It’s estimated that over 65% of new refrigerant handling licence holders under the age of 35. The data also highlights a declining average age across the licenced workforce, a promising indicator of the industry’s future pipeline for skilled professionals.

ARC chief executive Glenn Evans says the growth indicated a promising future and encourages more professionals to enter a field that plays a pivotal role in sustainability, safety and innovation.

“It’s great to see industry numbers growing every day, with the new generation joining the climate change sector,” he says.

“The profile of our industry is growing at an accelerated rate.”

The steady growth of qualified professionals and businesses highlights the expanding RAC industry and the importance of preventing refrigerant emissions in Australia’s transition to net zero.
