APS Industrial has introduced the SIMATIC S7-1200 G2, a second generation programmable logic controller (PLC).

This will act as a powerful and compact automation solution to combine information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The controller offers advanced motion control, increased processing power and expanded connectivity options for small to medium-sized applications.

“The S7-1200 has been on the market for over ten years, and it’s exciting to now be able to introduce the second generation,” APS Industrial automation and business manager Steven Sischy says.

“The G2 is enhanced by many features including an integrated motion control unit.”

The SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 features built-in Ethernet connectivity, expanded I/O capabilities and seamless integration with Siemens’ TIA portal. It also has near field communication (NFC) to allow users to access diagnostic and operational data in an instant on their phone.

The biggest addition to the second-generation controller is enhanced cybersecurity so all systems remain protected against unauthorised access and cyber threats.

“Cybersecurity is built into the system from version 18 of TIA, locking down devices to prevent unauthorised access,” Steven says.

“Diagnostics are sent directly to smartphones or applications, allowing operators to quickly address issues and minimise downtime, critical for maintaining production efficiency.”
