Ford’s popular medium van is set to get an all-new revival in the second quarter of this year, with the arrival of the next-generation Transit Custom not only bringing a new look and a box-fresh platform but also a more diverse range to help cater to a wider range of business users.

From launch, the Transit Custom will be available in a long-wheelbase double-cab configuration that allows up to five occupants to be carried – ideal for those needing to transport more crew than cargo. Those needing a dedicated site bus can also look in the direction of the Transit Custom-based Ford Tourneo, a passenger-focused van that allows up to eight people to be carried at once.

However, the dual-cab layout will only be available in the LWB Transit Custom Sport, with the regular workman-spec LWB Transit Custom Trend only coming with the standard single-row seat layout that accommodates three people. Both the Trend and Sport grades are also available in SWB form, and are strictly three-seaters.

All Transit Custom variants are powered by the same engine and gearbox combo, with a 2.0L turbodiesel inline four putting 125kW and 390Nm to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission – manual gearboxes and AWD are not available for the time being.

The Transit Custom Sport SWB is able to carry more than a tonne of cargo in the back, while the extra mass of the second-row seats downgrades the Transit Custom Sport LWB double-cab to a maximum payload of 854kg. All Transit Custom variants can tow up to 2500kg on a braked trailer and can take a load of up to 155kg on their roof racks.

Options include metal bulkheads, glass-less rear barn doors for greater security, an integrated dashcam and air conditioner outlets for the load space for operators transporting heat-sensitive cargo that doesn’t need a full-blown freezer.

The 2024 Ford Transit Custom range starts at $56,590 for the SWB Trend with the LWB Trend costing $1,000 more, while the SWB Sport retails at $59,990 and the LWB Sport Double-Cab priced at $62,990. The Tourneo passenger van is priced at $65,990 for the base Active Grade, with the flagship Tourneo Titanium X wearing a $70,990 retail price.
