Fronius and BYD secure first place in PV home storage system inspection
In an independent study that tested the overall efficiency of 21 home PV storage systems and battery storage from four manufacturers, Fronius and BYD secured first place.
The study highlights the importance of energy efficiency and notes: “In a less efficient system that was tested, nearly 1,100kw hours are lost annually due to high conversion losses – 600kw hours more than the winner from Fronius.”

Two reference cases were used for the assessment, one that combined a 10kWp PV system with heat pump and electric car and assumes an average household consumption while the second was more streamlined and analysed the system performance index (SPI) for a 5kWp PV system with the same consumption as the other.
In the 10kWp category, a combination of the Fronius GEN24 10.0 Plus hybrid inverter and the BYD Battery Box H11.5 performed extremely well and achieved a never before seen SPI value of 94%. It also achieved an excellent score in the 5kWp class with 92.3%, a close second. These two were the only two to have a class A energy efficiency in this category.
Integrated multi flow technology in the Fronius hybrid inverter GEN24 system enables simultaneous energy flows in all directions, but also the AC and DC coupling of the battery storage system. This system, compatible with the new GEN24 Plus hybrid inverter will be available from June 2021 as both a three-phase Symo GEN24 Plus with power categories from 6 to 10kW and as a single-phase Primo GEN24 Plus from 3 to 6kW.
