Legrand has announced the launch of its Eliot program to advance connectivity in the built environment and revitalise communication about Legrand products, wherever the Internet of Things (IoT) can provide users with additional benefits.

The aim of the Eliot program is to simplify usage, facilitate maintenance and democratise complex functions in connected devices, as well as customise products according to users’ habits, needs and desires.

Part of the Legrand Group’s strategy of continuous innovation, the Eliot program will connect existing devices by adding gateways to the existing offer, develop new products that are natively connected and imagine ground-breaking concepts to give a taste of the future.

It involves a cloud storage system for data gathered via Legrand Group’s applications and is focused on interoperability. On the strength of the Eliot dynamic, Legrand is engaged in various partnerships to promote interoperability of connected products in buildings. These include partnerships with Nest, Samsung, La Poste, Netatmo, the All Seen Alliance and the ZigBee Alliance.

Legrand aims for the Eliot dynamic to increase the number of the Group’s connected product families from 20 in 2015 to 40 by 2020. This expansion will result in smarter solutions that offer users new, tailored, leading-edge services that redefine the way they live.

“The question is not knowing whether the Internet of Things is coming, but in what form. We at Legrand see this as an opportunity to provide our customers with more added value. Our aim is genuinely to provide users with additional benefits. The ability to communicate should enhance the product’s value in use, by offering a real lasting benefit,” says Legrand Group chairman and chief executive Gilles Schnepp.
