As part of its continual social and economic development, the Italian city of Turin has begun the process of converting the city’s lighting to LED – and has chosen an Italian-made product to do so. This week Iren Servizi E Innovazione – the service utility company responsible for Turin’s electricity services – has awarded a contract to supply 45,000 luminaries to AEC Illuminazione.

AEC will provide 45,000 of their ITALO lights. These lights provide high-quality lighting, excellent colour rendering and significant cost reductions and energy savings – making the refurbishment good for the environment and the city’s budget. Starting from the next few months, almost 55% of all the city luminaires are going to be replaced with the installation of the new lamps.

Following Milan’s Example

The decision to refurbish with LED lighting follows the example of Milan, who have also installed the Italo lights from AEC Illuminazione.

ITALO is a model of technological excellence. We work in more than 40 countries and, just a year after its launch, ITALO has been chosen in many cities around the world. The fact that two of the main Italian cities have preferred it makes us really proud,” comments Alessandro Cini, AEC General Manager.

AEC gave Milan a high-performing solution for their public lighting; now they will also do so for Turin.

The Campaign To Become a Smart City and Community

The conversion of lighting to LED will further Turin’s campaign to become one of the European Commissions’ Smart Cities and Communities. The project addresses many problems in terms of energy, environment, and mobility, within the needs of the Horizon 2020 European projects. Strange though it may seem, lighting can help the city meet many of its social and economic goals.

It’s one step towards developing Turin as a city of innovation, eco-sustainability and high quality of light – and AEC will be there to light the path forward.
