SkillsTech Australia School-based Apprentice Stamati Batsinilas from St Laurence’s College in South Brisbane is on track to reach his goal of helping out the family’s business by the time he finishes school.

SkillsTech Australia School-based Apprenticeship and Traineeships (SATs) Coordinator Kate Broad said she was very impressed with the Year 12 student’s dedication and passion at work.

“Stamati started a Certificate III in Carpentry during Year 11 and has recently embarked on a Certificate IV in Building and Construction, which he plans to complete after graduating high school,” Ms Broad said.

“He has followed in the footsteps of his brothers, who both completed SATs in the automotive and shopfitting trade areas at SkillsTech Australia and now are business owners themselves.

“I have been amazed at Stamati’s maturity, knowledge and dedication to excelling both in the classroom and at work – he truly is a model student and strives to do his best.”

Stamati said he plans to work alongside his brothers and explained the many benefits he experienced during his SAT.

“My ultimate goal is to grow our family’s property maintenance business and to make that happen I know I need to get as much real-world experience as I can,” he said

“SkillsTech Australia’s student training plan prepared me for what to expect on-site by giving me practical skills.

“Becoming a SAT has enabled to me fast track my career – by the time I finish high school, I will be well on my way to becoming a qualified carpenter and working full-time.

“I definitely would encourage other students to become a SAT as you get a feel for that particular trade and it also means you’re a step ahead of the rest when leaving school.”
