Ultra definition 4K TV
With four times the resolution of Full HD, Sony’s impressive new 84” TV is another step change in home entertainment, revolutionising the way we watch TV. Described as ultra-definition TV (UDTV), it represents the next evolution in TV technology.
“Just as the transition from standard definition to high definition improved the quality of our at-home entertainment experience, the move to 4K or UDTV will provide another leap in what we can expect to enjoy in our own lounge rooms,” said marketing manager for home entertainment Hass Mahdi.
“The 4K TV marks our biggest TV launch to date. The combination of Sony’s 4K broadcast expertise and our extensive history in TV innovation has resulted in the creation of this 84” beauty. It’s a must-want for those who like to be at the very cutting edge of technology – who demand the very best.”
Of course, the questions then become what source device to use and what content do you watch.
A tweet from the company stated: “Well, just like Full HD, the 4K eco system is being established.”
Fair enough.
Equipped with 4K X-Reality PRO and a 4K LCD panel comprising over 8 million megapixels, the UDTV provides an incredible four times the resolution of Full HD standard. This formidable combination seamlessly delivers a high-resolution large-screen picture with powerful sound to provide you with an immersive experience, unlike anything offered by conventional televisions.
The high picture quality engine is capable of taking a variety of content with different resolutions, such as HD footage from digital broadcasts or Blu-ray discs, and reproducing it in stunningly crisp, high-quality images with 4K resolution. In addition, enjoy 3D footage in high picture quality with 4K X-Reality PRO super-resolution processing.
The impact of the size of the 4K TV is incomprehensible as while the screen itself is a huge 84-inches, you can actually sit closer to the screen for a remarkably lifelike experience. The high resolution (3840 x 2160) allows viewers to sit as close to the screen as half the distance required when viewing Full HD (for which three times the screen height is recommended) without being concerned by the pixels.
The UDTV’s beautiful, large high-resolution screen and powerful sound provide you with an immersive experience comparable to being at a live entertainment venue or in a movie theatre. The viewing environment created by Sony’s 4KTV is impeccable and unparalleled to anything seen on a television screen before.
The new UDTV is packed with Sony’s independent technologies, from its signal processing through to its speakers, and its ‘signal to sound architecture’ delivers powerful sound quality. This three-way 10-speaker system (total output 50W) is arranged at the sides of the UDTV directly facing the viewing position, and is optimised for large-screen TVs. It achieves a powerful sound with position-orienting tones, from deep bass through to medium range and high notes.
Improved personal 3D viewer
Transporting you into your own world of entertainment, Sony’s latest Personal 3D Viewer (HMZT2) offers sharp 2D and 3D picture and an immersive cinematic experience in the comfort of your own home.
Now even lighter and more comfortable, the new Personal 3D Viewer is a head-mounted, High Definition 2D and 3D personal display with virtual 5.1 channel surround sound. It’s perfect for movies and gaming, with twin OLED screens that display vivid, super-sharp images (with zero cross-talk interference) for a truly immersive experience.
Weighing just 330g, the HMZT2 is more than 20 per cent lighter than Sony’s first generation Personal 3D Viewer, with greater options for wearing comfort. Its adjustable headband and forehead support allows for a secure, gentle fit with positional screen lenses for relaxed and clear 3D viewing.
Adjust the sound and vision on the HMZT2 without breaking from the action with the new wireless remote control, and there’s even a dual output switcher to allow others to watch TV or films while you play games on the Personal 3D Viewer.
“The HMZT2 Personal 3D Viewer is designed for greater comfort and total immersion,” said Ken Hatanaka, Deputy Marketing Manager of Home Entertainment, Sony Australia, “While watching a film or playing a game, you’ll be totally absorbed in the thrilling action and forget you’re even wearing the headset.”
The HMZT2 features dedicated, high response Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) screens for each eye, reproducing deep, vivid colour tones with sharp contrast and no blurring. You will feel completely immersed in a widescreen cinema experience with the 45 degree field of vision.
The HMZT2 comes with a set of detachable and adjustable light shields for a greater immersive viewing experience. These flexible light shields simply clip on or off the Personal 3D Viewer, and are completely unobtrusive to the headset comfort and design.
With a choice of sound modes, the HMZT2 features Virtual phone technology to create a 360º natural sound field, just as though you’re listening to true 5.1 channel surround sound. There’s also Harmonic Equaliser technology built-in, which restores audio compression losses in the digital wave form for a fuller, more spacious sound. The HMZT2 has a universal 3.5mm headphone jack which enables you to use your own customisable gaming headset for a true immersive gaming experience.
