safety first sign

A tragic death of a retired electrician on the Gold Coast yesterday reinforces the dangers of working with live electricity.

Initial investigations of the incident by Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office have found that a man received a fatal electrical shock after entering the ceiling space in a home in Robina.

The man was believed to be attempting to install a new power point in the home.

“This incident reminds us that firstly, no one without a current licence should do electrical work and secondly, even with a current licence, it’s imperative that all equipment is correctly isolated and tested before touching an electrical cable,” said NECA chief executive Suresh Manickam.

“NECA, yet again reminds all electrical contractors and electricians of the critical need to be vigilant when working with live electricity.

“We remind consumers to always seek out a licensed electrical contractor for any electrical work.”
